Which state is famous for what?

Jammu and Kashmir

Starting from the north, Jammu and Kashmir are among the most beautiful territories of India. It is famous for its beautiful mountains, lakes, and saffron cultivation. It is a famous tourist destination among the Indians as many flock to the region between March- September.

Ladakh

Ladakh is known for its mountain passes and Buddhist monasteries. It has the most mesmerising landscape that you can ever see on the face of the earth.

Punjab

To the west of Himachal Pradesh and south of Kashmir is Punjab. Punjab is known for its rivers, music, saints, and fighters. It is the birthplace of the Sikh religion after partition half of the Punjab remains in Pakistan.

Himachal

The state to the south of Kashmir is Himachal Pradesh. Himachal Pradesh is famous for its hill stations and tourism.

Uttarakhand

To the southeast of Himachal Pradesh is Uttarakhand, also known as Devbhumi (the Land of the Gods). Uttarakhand is famous for its pilgrimage sites such as – Badrinath, Gangotri, Haridwar, and Kedarnath.

Haryana

To the south of Punjab is Haryana, often called the Olympian state of India.

To the southwest of Haryana is Rajasthan. Rajasthan is famous for its dunes, beautiful palaces, and rich culture. It i home to the largest Indus Valley Civilization site, Rakhigarhi.

Gujarat

A bit further southwest, we have Gujarat. Gujarat has the longest coastline after Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It boasts beautiful temples and is the only state to have Asiatic Lions.

Madhya Pradesh

To the east of Gujarat, we have Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh has ancient temples, stupas, forts, and tigers.

To the south of Madhya Pradesh is Maharashtra. Maharashtra is famous for its ancient caves, rich culture, industries, and Bollywood.

Now, to the north of Madhya Pradesh is Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh is famous for sites such as the Taj Mahal and Varanasi, its people, and its elections. It has the largest population in India

To the south of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh is Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh is rich in resources and is one of the few states with surplus power

Bihar

To the east of Uttar Pradesh is Bihar. Historically, Bihar was a religious and political centre and is famous for its silk

Jharkhand

To the south of Bihar is Jharkhand. Jharkhand is famous for its rich mineral resources.

West Bengal

To the east of Jharkhand is West Bengal. West Bengal is famous for its delicacies, and culture, and is a leading producer of rice and jute It is also considered the first modern state of India.

Odisha

To the east of Chhattisgarh, towards the eastern coast, lies Odisha. Odisha is famous for its temples and festivals.

Sikkim

This small tip between Bhutan and Nepal is Sikkim. Kanchenjunga, the highest peak in India, is located here Sikkim is also rich in biodiversity

Goa

Talking about small states, here lies Goa, to the southern tip of Maharashtra and we all know what Goa is famous for It. has beautiful beaches and places of worship The culture is unique because of the influence of different colonial regimes

Meghalaya

Let’s go back to the Northeastern States – this is Meghalaya. The wettest place on Earth lies here Clouded leopards are found here Meghalaya is also famous for its unique caves, limestone formations, and waterfalls

Arunachal Pradesh

This northeasternmost state is Arunachal Pradesh. It is called the land of the rising sun in India It also has the second-largest Buddhist monastery in the world

Nagaland

To the south of Arunachal Pradesh is Nagaland. Here, you will find the Purvanchal Himalayas Nagaland is also known as the land of festivals, with the Hornbill Festival being a major celebration

Manipur

To the south of Nagaland is Manipur. Loktak Lake is in Manipur, with its floating marshes and swamps known as Phumdis.

Mizoram

To the south of Manipur is Mizoram. It is called the Land of Blue Mountains and is famous for its evergreen forests and dense bamboo jungles.

Tripura

To the west of Mizoram is Tripura. Tripura has toy trains, rubber and tea cultivations, and a rich culture like any other northeastern state

Assam

Now, Assam is the connecting state or the centermost state of the northeastern states. It is known for its tea, silk, and one-horned rhinos

Tamil Nadu

To the south of Andhra Pradesh, we have Tamil Nadu. It is famous for its Dravidian-style temples, the Kaveri Delta, and its rich culture and heritage

Kerala

To the west of Tamil Nadu, we have Kerala. Kerala is famous for its beautiful backwaters, spices, houseboats, tea plantations, and medical tourism.

Karnataka

To the north of Kerala is Karnataka. The Silicon Valley of India lies here It also has a rich culture and heritage, along with rich biodiversity, parks, and hill stations

 

Union Territories

Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu

On the western coast of India, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu were recently merged It is famous for its Portuguese culture.

Puducherry

Puducherry, also known as Pondicherry, has 4 regions Puducherry itself and Karaikal are in Tamil Nadu Mahe is in Kerala, and Yanam is in Andhra Pradesh. These were all French settlements that became part of India after post-independence consolidation.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands

This is a group of islands in the Bay of Bengal Famous for its beautiful beaches and seashell items It is also home to 4 Negrito tribes and 2 Mongoloid tribes

Lakshadweep Islands

This group of islands is in the Arabian Sea, off the coast of Kerala. It literally means “a hundred thousand islands” Many of these islands are formed by coral polyps

Delhi

Officially known as the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT), it is a city and a union territory of India containing New Delhi, the capital of India It is situated alongside the Yamuna River

Chandigarh

The dispute between Haryana and Punjab has made Chandigarh a union territory
